Feeling Fall in Wisconsin

Want to really feel Fall? Want to breathe in crisp air and crunch leaves under your feet and make those family moments you always imagine in your mind (but never quite turn out that way?) like apple picking and hayrides? I found a place all of those things can come true: Wisconsin.

Living in Illinois, our “family getaway” was often a three-hour drive over the border to Milwaukee, and it was usually in early summer and again in late Fall.  Now living in Los Angeles, I do become nostalgic for the vivid colors of the leaves changing and a cool snap in the air.  As I write this on October 28, 2018, it was 90 degrees here today in California.  Trick-or-treating as a little kid usually involved bundling up in a winter coat, hat, gloves, boots so no one could see your costume and there were nights a blizzard hit and we could only dredge up the street before our hands were numb, our feet soaked with snow and runny noses.  My point is, there are advantages to being in LA, but it just doesn’t feel like Fall.  So I got nostalgic and found these photos of our family apple picking at Apple Holler (just over the Wisconsin border) and then walking around the Milwaukee Zoo. So if you’re feeling like you want to feel Fall, keep scrolling.

New Orleans: More Than What To See And Do

New Orleans is more than what to see and do. It's more than beads hanging off of street signs. New Orleans is tasting powdered sugar on the fingers, cobblestones that rise and fall with every step; big porches with small details. It's big music, marching through the streets and gentle hospitality.

Heisler Park, Laguna Beach

Heisler Park in Laguna Beach, California is a perfect stop along the Pacific Coast Highway. It's a perfect mix of tropical and wild beach. If you want to truly appreciate how beautiful a beach can be, visit it early in the spring, after a rare Southern California dark and cloudy sky. Any beach can look appealing in bright sunshine and blue skies. For the wanderer that seeks raw and wild beauty where ocean touches the land, this is where you go.

Blooming Flower Fields of Carlsbad

I dreamt I walked through the blooming Flower Fields of Carlsbad. A sea of pink, white, red and orange flowers in rows of waves as far as I could see. I stepped into a painting with the breezes blowing off the ocean and could see the ocean from atop the hill. I realized I wasn't dreaming. This was a dream come true.
